Dispersant is to disperse all kinds of powder in the solvent reasonably, and make all kinds of solid suspended in the solvent (or dispersion) stably through certain charge repulsion principle or macromolecule potential resistance effect Dispersant is a kind of interfacial active agent which has both hydrophilic and lipophilic properties. It can evenly disperse the solid and liquid particles of inorganic and organic pigments that are difficult to dissolve in liquid.

The water-based dispersant with high efficiency and environmental protection is nonflammable and non corrosive, which can be infinitely soluble in water, and insoluble in ethanol, acetone, benzene and other organic solvents. It has excellent dispersing effect on kaolin, titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, talcum powder, zinc oxide, iron oxide yellow and other pigments. It is also suitable for dispersing mixed pigments. The functional characteristics of water-based dispersants are explained as follows:

1. Replace ammonia water and other alkaline substances as neutralizer to reduce ammonia odor and improve production and construction environment.

2. The water-based paint dispersant can effectively control pH value and improve the efficiency and viscosity stability of thickener.

3. Improve the dispersing effect of pigment, the phenomenon of pigment particles' settling and returning to coarseness, and the color development of color paste and the luster of paint film

4. The water-based paint dispersant is volatile and will not stay in the paint film for a long time. It can be used in high gloss paint and has excellent water resistance and scrub resistance 。

5. It can be used as a post additive to effectively reduce the shear viscosity and improve the fluidity and leveling of the coating.

Waterborne dispersant is also an indispensable additive in coating industry. It is helpful for the dispersion of pigment and filler. Make the coating more easy to disperse and even. In addition, it can also make the coating smooth in the film-forming process.

At the other end of the effective concentration range of dispersant is the "aggregation concentration value", which is the concentration of dispersant necessary to prevent pigment from aggregation and flocculation under very harsh conditions. In latex paint system, the best dispersant concentration for pigment is between the above two values. Experimental method for determining the amount of dispersant: to determine the amount of dispersant needed for effectively dispersing solid pigment in latex paint system, a titration operation step with two end points is used, which are flow point and concentration value.

Effective concentration of dispersant: in latex paint system, each kind of pigment and filler needs a certain amount of dispersant to disperse. For a given dispersant, there will be a stable effective concentration range of the system. The lowest point of this range is called "flow point", which means the dispersant concentration required for the flow state of pigments or fillers wetted with water, that is, the minimum amount of dispersant necessary for suspension of pigments.
